Series on critics of Christianity
Brian Jones has posted a series on the critics of Christianity--including South Park and Late Night talk shows. Interesting reading (posts are in mid-March)
The quote from Gates is wonderful -- perfect material for the unit on religion/Durkheim/ritual, especially the sacred/profane. “Just in terms of allocation of time resources, religion is not very efficient."
As for comics, they don't make jokes about Christianity usually. They make jokes about hypocrites, and they point out the flaws of people who make some claim to authority -- preachers, politicians, doctors, et. al. But that doesn't mean they're all against religion, government, or medicine.
And I'm curious as to why Jones thinks we are now in "post-Christian" America.
