Apropos of nothing, I came across this statistic that truly surprised me. I'm so used to hearing about American angst and worry, that I would have guessed that other countries have people much more satisfied with their lives. Well, according to a 2002 Pew Study, this isn't the case. Americans express more satisfaction with their lives than the citizens of any other country except for Canada and Guatemala. (Once again we can blame Canada.) We're only moderately satisfied with our country, and even less so about the world itself. Hm-m-m, maybe this me-first thing is working!

According to data from the World Values Survey, which includes a larger number of nations, the US is only 16th of 97. Their leaders are Denmark, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Iceland, Northern Ireland, and Ireland. I know that seems like an oddly assorted group, but that's how it came out.
Gosh David, that doesn't make me very happy.
All the leaders are relatively small countries... ?
