Well, we get rid of the television next week, as per our 3 months on- 9 months off schedule. With the UConn Huskies out of the NCAA tourneyment, and the kids starting to watch tv out of habit, I am ready for it to go. One good thing from this round of viewing: We discovered the show House M.D.
If you haven't seen it, its about a doctor with the deductive skills of Sherlock Holmes, the interpersonal skills of Simon Cowell (of American Idol), doing CSI-like work with medicine.
I like the show for many reasons (e.g., a great character played by a great actor), but also Dr. House he says whatever he wants while at the same time making a huge positive difference in the lives of many. These are both things that I would like more of for myself (though, maybe not the first to the degree that House does).

Pardon me while I gush, but I looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove House!!! We have discovered the show this year also and have rented DVDs of past seasons to catch up. I agree in full with your last paragraph - in fact, I've almost blogged the exact same thing. If only I could be excellent at what I do AND totally genuine about who I am (though maybe not so mean to other people).
We're doing the same thing with Netflix... renting past episodes. Isn't it fun! I was almost late to class last night (had to ride my bike instead of walk) because I was watching House with my wife.
It is so awesome. I have forgone some opportunities to get coursework done in order to watch with my hubby. Always seems worth it in the end!
House is a riot. It is appointment television. Brilliant and grumpy, abrasive and right. He has it all. It is just a fun program.
I'd have a hard time dumping the tv this year before seeing the last 7 episodes of House@ I love House, though I think who I really love is Hugh Laurie.
We used to put away the TV's every summer. We've settled on a 'moderation' approach year-round that seems to work.
My wife likes Hugh Laurie a lot too. Have you ever seen him in the Jeeves' series? Hard to believe it's the same actor. (I suppose that's why it's called acting).
However... I've noticed that my wife is talking about Robert Sean Leonard a lot more these days. Hm-m-m-m.
