Jewish norms and tattoos

Here's a story that illustrates the difficulty of matching timeless religious customs with current fads. Apparently Jewish law was thought to forbid tattoos but now it's thought to allow them. Not that I am one or have the other...

(Thanks David)

if God's Word say's Dont do it, Dont do it! End of story. What part of "NO" dont you understand? i dont get the rationalization. In other words, God says no, but you say yes and you are going to do it, and you are going to have your way no matter what. thats just a spoiled kid throwing a tantrum but because they are "adults" they rationalize it away with "JEwish Symbols" to make it right. all it is is out and out defiance of the One true and living and Holy, Holy, Holy God. It is called DISOBIEDIENCE, you know that archaic term that is the opposite of OBIEDIENCE.

Hey Brad,
I just volunteered to organize a hermeneutics book club at church exactly because of questions like this - how to interpret God's Word in a way that honors the original intent and accurately applies that intent to Christian life today. I found this article to be an interesting (if monumentally open-ended) discussion of how Jews struggle to apply God's word to their lives today.
Here's a great post on the subject from a Christian perspective:

Thanks for the link, Adrienne. Does this mean that you have a tattoo?

That's between me and my rabbi.
