Here's a graph from the article commented upon before. It's unclear, but I think the graph uses non-believers synonymously with atheists, when that's not the case. What it calls non-believers would better described as unaffiliated, many of whom believe in God, but they don't align themselves with a particular religion.
Seems like the colder states are increasing in unaffiliated--which makes sense given how tough the winters can be in those states (and therefore, how can there be a God?) ;-)
